DIS Copenhagen: Semester

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was amazing - I could talk for hours about everything I learned and all the experiences I had and all the friends I made.

Personal Information

The term and year this program took place: Fall 2009

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Classes were really interesting - I was able to learn about things from an entirely European perspective.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everything went smoothly

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Living in a dorm with other American students from my program.

Great location in the wealthiest neighborhood of Copenhagen, I had my own bedroom, bathroom, and kitchenette.

* Food:

We did all our own grocery shopping.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Great people, good social atmosphere.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Copenhagen is an extremely safe city.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Copenhagen is really expensive, so even the bare essentials cost a lot of money. Be prepared to go through money very quickly.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? It's easy to find inexpensive ways to travel and places to stay and still have a good time.

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
Language acquisition improvement?

I didn't take a Danish class, but I was able to pick up basic conversational Danish anyway.
