DIS Copenhagen: Semester

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The course work at my home university is definitely more challenging than my abroad institution was. However, this does not mean that it lacked substance, and I often found myself walking from class taking just as much in thought as I would from a home unversity class. Being abroad is strongly based on experience outside the classroom.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

lots of resources available to students, very honed on american way of learning.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in a Danish Folkehojeskole, a place where youths live together and share living duties (cooking, cleaning, etc). It promoted global education and 'learning to live'.

* Food:

The food in my living situation was great.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The most amazing trip of my life was organized by DIS, my field study excursion to Greenland to visit the ice sheets.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Very safe country, I never felt in danger. Medical care at local doctors was always available as well.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? MY living situation provided a larger part of the daily living expenses, I had to pay for any personal outings on the weekends, as well as doing laundry.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Transit passes are very expensive to replace.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
