In ancient city of Kyoto with rich cultural heritage, CSI’s partner institution, Ritsumeikan University, offers two summer program options: 5-week program which gives a comprehensive introduction to Japanese language and culture and 2-week program which focuses on Japanese pop culture. In the 5-week Japanese Language and Culture Program, students will have an opportunity to take intensive Japanese language classes while experiencing the cultural exchange and exploration through fieldtrips and workshops about Japanese culture. 2-week Japanese Pop Culture Program is offered in conjunction with the College of Image Arts and Science at Ritsumeikan University, and it explores particular elements of Japanese pop culture that have had a substantial influence globally such as film, manga, video games through lectures and field trips.

 Ritsumeikan University is one of the top-ranked private universities in Japan. Kinugasa Campus, located in the north-west of Kyoto, the old capital of Japan, is surrounded by many historic temples and UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Golden Pavilion and Ryoanji Temple, providing a serene environment for education and research. It is Ritsumeikan University’s main campus, hosting 18,000 stu-dents, and the university’s center for liberal arts studies.
