Art History at the Courtauld Institute of Art Past Review

By (Middlebury College) - abroad from 01/14/2019 to 05/24/2019 with

Courtauld Institute of Art: London - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
The structure of classes was that less time was spent in day to day lectures and much more time was spent working independently, which encouraged good use of time management. The focus of the university allowed me to explore the many different niches within the singular subject of art history in a way that is not as readily available to me at Middlebury, as a liberal arts college.

there was no dining hall or food service, so i provided my own food (which was fine!)

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Lectures from experts in the field
  • Access to art collections in the city to bolster learning
  • participating in classes with local students rather than being cordoned off with only study abroad students
* What could be improved?
  • the organization of the administration at the university and their communication with study abroad students
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? that the lack of participating in a study abroad program made it so that much logistical/administrative support was something I had to seek out on my own.
