Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

There was not much emphasis of class work as there were 2-3 mandatory essays for each class and a final. No quizzes or tests were administered that were not written.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Lengthy process. You have to decide where you want to study abroad a year before you go abroad.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Great housing, very safe and convenient location!

* Food:

Housing was right near downtown with supermarkets and dining facilities

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

CIEE provided capstones that gave us opportunities to explore Cape Town easily. We also got to volunteer and interact with families as we did a homestay one weekend.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Cape Town is very dangerous. CIEE provides live-in RA's, protective housing with fences and a security guard at each house.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Travel, flights are very expensive to and from cape town
