China Study Abroad Reflections: Comprehensive Reviews of Past Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Mainly, I gained a stronger sense of self, emotional intelligence and became more self-sufficient. I also learned a lot about judicial and political issues that were going on globally, which made me a more informed but concerned citizen.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I really appreciated the academic rigor of the London Global Internship Program. The class I took focused on the socio-historical context of London, and every week we would go on different field trips to experience the different neighborhoods and parts of the city. It was a great experience overall.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I really enjoyed the support CAPA gave us throughout the program, and how helpful they were in helping us navigate the city on our owns.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The location was great, but many of us were having problems in our flats.

* Food:

London is a great melting pot of multiculturalism and diversity. There are so many different cuisines to choose from!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I really enjoyed learning and experiencing the natives and the city as a whole. It reminded me so much of New York, and I felt safe and at home.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

It was such spiritually enriching and professionally fulfilling experience. I learned a lot about myself and I got to live in a completely different continent and travel for the summer. It was great!

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

London is a very expensive city, so budgeting is definitely a must.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
