Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Charles Darwin University is not perceived as a very prestigious university by Australians. Most of the class information could have been easily researched elsewhere and the grading seemed to be biased towards Australian students in some subjects.

On-site administration of your program

The staff was very accessible and knowledgeable however they were confined by the university system which is slow. Also there were only a few of them but they did great with what they had.

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

North Flinders International House on campus. <br /><br /> It was on campus so close to class but slightly removed from the city. Aesthetically not that great but perfectly adequate. The campus is totally open so anyone can get to the dorms though. Bedding, towels, and a small fridge are provided and cookware can be rented cheaply for the semester from the office. There are no dining halls so there are kitchens on every floor.

Food is quite expensive and there was a smaller selection than at most grocery stores but most items are easily to get.

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The dorm staff arranged camping in the outback, sightseeing tours, crocodile and kangaroo spotting events and many others.

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Darwin is generally safe but there was an Australian wide outbreak of violent crimes during my stay. There is no health clinic on campus but there a few within an easy distance. Health care was comparable to the U.S. system.
