An Unforgettable Semester Abroad in Barcelona August 28, 2026

CET Barcelona

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
My experience abroad taught me so much about connecting with the local culture, adapting to a completely new country, and becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable. Living in Barcelona pushed me outside of my comfort zone and challenged me to navigate unfamiliar situations independently. I learned to be more open-minded, adaptable, and confident while experiencing a different culture and way of life. It was absolutely worthwhile and helped me grow both personally and academically in ways I never could have by staying in my comfort zone.

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I had known just how different the Spanish spoken in Barcelona can be from the Mexican Spanish I was already comfortable and confident speaking. I quickly learned that accents, vocabulary, expressions, and even the presence of Catalan could make communication feel very different from what I was used to. It was challenging at first, but it ultimately pushed me to become a more adaptable and confident Spanish speaker.
