CEA CAPA Education Abroad: Seville, Spain

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, my study abroad experience was worthwhile. I met some great people and learned a lot about Spanish culture. I couldn't have asked for a better host family and roommates. This experience has inspired me to continue with Spanish and to travel more.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes were great. The instructors were very nice and they made the courses fun. My favorite class was art history and architecture of Seville.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everyone in the program administration were very helpful and very nice.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved my roommates! We all got along very well. I learned a lot from my host family about Spanish culture and speaking the language more fluently.

* Food:

My host mom made the best Spanish food! I wasn't able to eat foods with gluten/wheat and it wasn't difficult to find foods to eat.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

We went to a Flamenco dance; that was fun. We saw a bull fight. I'm glad I went for the experience, but it was very depressing to see several bulls get killed. We took an overnight trip to Portugal (Lagos and Portimao). All we did was lay on the beach. We didn't see much of the cities. We also took a day trip to Jerez for wine tasting and Conil to lay out on the beach. I wouldn't do the wine tasting again. Conil beach was beautiful.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Anywhere we went I felt safe. The area that I stayed in was safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

The class didn't teach me anymore Spanish than what I learned in high school, but it was a good review.
