Canterbury Christ Church University: Canterbury - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Being here did not chance my plans, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. I learned a lot about my own country as well.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

My workload wasn't bad at all. You are given plenty of time to do the work, and I ended up finishing a few weeks before anything was due. Grading system was normal because all of my professors told me what the American equivalent was. Teaching methods were good, but it was difficult to adjust to classes that were two hours long. It is hard to actively pay attention for two straight hours of lecture.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

All of my professors were very knowledgeable, a few of them knew about the American education system, and this experience definitely met and blew away my expectations.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

We made our own food so everything was fine.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

All of the events that are arranged by the university are incredible. They take you to a lot of places that you would want to see like London and Stonehenge.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The town is very safe and I never felt like I was in any danger.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? It depends on if you go out or not. I personally didn't go out to clubs so I didn't end up spending that much money. Groceries are pretty cheap.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Just be aware of the exchange rate.
