I am now certified to teach English in any other country. I consider these skills to be incredibly worthwhile, because I am able to travel to other countries with a marketable and in-demand skill. Katy N - Boston University View Entire Review
About
Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) in Chile can be the adventure of a lifetime, but it’s hard to get started. How can you build the skills you need to design and teach your own lessons? Or learn the ropes in a new city? Or find a job? With more than two decades of experience in Chile, BridgeTEFL’s got the answers. In fact, we designed our month-long, Santiago-based International Diploma in English Language Teaching (IDELT™) program to cover all the bases. We don’t just offer comprehensive, internationally accredited training to prepare you to teach English as a foreign language; we also pick you up from the airport, help you find housing, strengthen your Spanish skills, and even connect you to a broad network of jobs once you graduate. Located in Chile’s capital of Santiago—a sophisticated global city with culture and nature galore—Bridge’s IDELT™ program will help you build a foundation for success in a city hungry for English-language instruction. So take the plunge—you’ll build professional skills and lifelong memories as you immerse yourself in a new and vibrant culture.
What makes Santiago unique? Wedged between the shores of the Pacific and the towering peaks of the Andes, and stretching from the icy tip of Patagonia to the spectacular highland deserts of the North, Chile is one of the world’s most geographically unique countries. The charm of this unusual geography is on full display in Santiago. Elaborate hilltop parks dot the city, keeping hikers and nature lovers busy. The snow-capped Andes can be seen from just about everywhere in the city, and world-class skiing is just a few minutes away. And if snow isn’t your style, never fear—sand is also close at hand. Viña del Mar, one of the Southern Cone’s most famous beach resorts, and Valparaíso, a bohemian seaside city with unparalleled Pacific vistas, are only 100km away. So pack your skis and your sunblock—Chile and its unparalleled diversity await! The Bridge IDELT™ (International Diploma in English Language Teaching) is an intensive, 140-hour course that prepares you to teach English anywhere in the world. IDELT™ Course Description As an IDELT™ trainee, you’ll benefit from our decades of international experience training teachers and students. IDELT™ graduates will finish the course with a better understanding of the English language, practical experience with a variety of teaching techniques, and confidence in the classroom. The IDELT™ provides 140 contact hours between the trainee, the course trainer(s), peers, and EFL/ESL students. Course components include the following: essential subject knowledge given in input sessions (interactive lecture classes), teaching practice with real language learners, classroom observation of experienced teachers, and several written assignments. This comprehensive course is designed for candidates with no previous English teaching experience, but is also suitable for those who have some experience but no formal training in the TEFL field. The IDELT™ program has been approved by ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training) and is recommended for credit at over 1,500 universities by PONSI (University of the State of New York National Program on Noncollegiate Sponsored Instruction). This means that the IDELT™ was evaluated by a team of subject matter experts and found comparable to college instruction. The IDELT™ has been recommended for six graduate-level semester hours as an elective or as a teaching practicum in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). IDELT™ BridgeVirtual Language Lessons
As part of your program fee, you will receive three free BridgeVirtual language sessions for your use prior to your arrival on-site! Each session lasts 2 hours and includes both pre- and post-class online activities, as well as private, face-to-face time with a certified native speaking teacher. With BridgeVirtual, you’ll learn from practical assignments that incorporate videos, blogs, news articles, and a large variety of material, appropriate for all levels and interests. You will be assigned your own teacher, who is dedicated to guiding and motivating you through a completely personalized, one-to-one program, which makes learning fun, practical and effective. And most importantly, you’ll have the language tools you need to be successful in your program abroad.
Course Goals By the end of the IDELT™, trainees will be able to do the following: • Teach English to adult learners using an appropriate range of practical skills. • Plan, prepare and execute a range of lesson types for a communicative, student-centered class using a variety of materials and techniques. • Assess learner needs in order to plan and teach lessons that take account of learners' backgrounds, learning preferences and current needs. • Develop learners’ overall language competency by defining and analyzing language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and how they are learned • Analyze and categorize the English language as well as design appropriate presentation, practice and production activities for lesson planning. • Demonstrate professional awareness, responsibility, and teacher development by giving and receiving teaching feedback as well as working effectively with peers and trainers.
