What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes. It motivated me to learn spanish better and travel to other countries in south america. I gained a greater apreciation for the culture here too.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I liked the teaching methods but I think there should've been a more structured vocab list to learn. I feel like focusing on a few words in different topics per week would've helped me more.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The strength was the opportunity to speak spanish and the engaging way the teachers taught spanish. The weakness was the lack of structure and the textbooks.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved our housing situation. Some things were difficult because of culture differences or and the lifestyle i was used to in the US, but I'm very glad I had the experience.

* Food:

The food was great but a few sundays there wasn't much to eat and we weren't officially served dinner...I didn't know if we were supposed to take something out of the fridge or not...

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I loved going to the jardin japones and the bellas artes. I think the cultural events greatly enriched this experience.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I felt safe except sometimes at night. After speaking to a few locals, I don't know if Once is the best neighborhood to house female international students.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

Some people spoke english and everyone from the group spoke english so i spoke english a fair amount.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Have an open mind and try to make the best out of every situation, but share your feelings with others so you can work through them. Students who are open-minded and not afraid to speak spanish and get out of their comfort zone would most benefit.
