Defining and profound Past Review

By (Marketing and writing, Providence College) - abroad from 01/13/2013 to 04/27/2013 with

Boston University: London - London Internship Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Overall my experience was worthwhile. I was exposed to a number of different cultures, and was also forced to be much more independent as an individual.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I felt like the my core class in marketing was beneficial. Unfortunately I do not feel like a learned anything from either elective class.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

No meal plan or food stipend was available for students. The food in London, especially where we were living was very expensive. I know that students in other programs in London were given a food stipend. Given how expensive the BU program was, I feel that something should have been made available.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? In TOTAL, I spent $6,000
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Decide where and how you want to spend your money. Make the decision to cut back on going out at night if you want to travel to more countries, buy fresh, healthier food, or eat out more.

  • Location in London
* What could be improved?
  • Available "extra" programs

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? How expensive London is compared to other countries in Europe. And people who said that it was always rainy, cold, and cloudy in London were not kidding! HAVE to be prepared for that before you go.
