Boston University: London - London Internship Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
that I need to travel with people I know, especially going abroad. I gained knowledge in a different work environment with a totally different culture. Yes, because if I didn't do it then I would have wondered what it would have been like.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

the library was terrible, barely any places to study within the dorm I was placed. No desks, just a small table with 4 chairs in our room.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

minimum lighting, one common room for over 45 people. Kitchen didn't work out and I was placed with 3 people who who would have never been my roommates anywhere else. Also placed in a dorm filled mostly with Theatre students, A totally different program than mine.

* Food:

no meal plan whatsoever. grocery shopped.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Since we didn't have classes with British students, and it was only BU students it was extremely hard to meet people our age. Especially since we lived in a residential area. The internship helped with integrating into the culture

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

were not allowed any sick days, if you were you had pay 90 pounds to see a doctor. To not be sick for an entire semester especially in a different country seems a little ridiculous.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

* Was housing included in your program cost? Yes
* Was food included in your program cost? No

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes

  • the safety
* What could be improved?
  • Wireless internet, professors, the dorms: more common room living, a bigger library.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? that I wasn't going to know anyone on the program, and that i wasn't going to be placed with roommates who have similar living to me.
