Four of the Best Months of my Life - London Study Abroad Past Review

By (Economics., Providence College) for

Boston University: London - London Internship Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, i am more confident and I gained personal and professional experience from my study abroad. I also grew academically and living somewhere else for four months as a student is a once in a lifetime opportunity every student should take advantage of.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload was less but the grading system was pretty much entirely based on the end of semester final. This could be a bit stressful to have your whole grade weighted on one test but if you went to class and studied you would be fine.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I found the onsite administration very helpful and readily accessible. We had RA's to help us on our floors but all the administration was mainly located in one building so they were easy to find and talk to.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

The quality of the food is delicious - but the program does not provide you with a meal plan. you have a kitchen to share with about 5 other people that comes with supplies to cook with but you have to shop for food yourself. There is a great place to shop for food right near the Gloucester tube stop, so it is also very convenient! There are many amazing places to eat all throughout London of every type of ethnic cuisine!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

We traveled a lot with my friends on the program. It was sometimes complicated planning all this travel but always worth it - Amsterdam, Italy, Dublin, Galway, Wales, Paris, Barcelona, Prague, and Vienna.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Extremely safe location in a very nice borough of London. I never felt unsafe. There was no health issues anyone I knew experienced.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? There are many unexpected expenses, like laundry and eating out and traveling a lot. But you also need to be aware that the cost of living in London is very high in general, not to mention the pound is much stronger than the dollar.
