Boston University: Geneva - Internship Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I made my experience in Geneva great on my own accord. The program did not contribute to my wonderful time in Geneva. I learned a lot about Swiss history and enjoyed exploring the country.

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Live with only students from the BU program so it is hard to integrate with locals or other students.

* Food:

Breakfast provided M-F but just bread and cereal. Fruit only twice a week.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

This program make it very difficult to integrate because you live with americans, take classes with americans, and do everything with people in the program.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Geneva is a very safe city. Never felt uneasy about taking the trams late at night or walking around. Just make sure you aren't alone.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Geneva/Switzerland in general is super expensive

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $100
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Grocery shop in France- although it is a trek, it isn't bad, MUCH cheaper and you can stock up for a few weeks. Be prepared to not buy meat in Geneva- very expensive. Save money for trips outside of Switzerland if you want to do any. Those ended up being the most expensive. Look for deals.

The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
