Boston University: Auckland - Internship Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned better time management skills since I had to work in the internship 20 hours a week and balance school work. I also learned how to cook since there was a full kitchen in the apartment.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The University of Auckland was a really amazing experience. The Professors are all very nice.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The Progam was very well organized. However, for the internship part of the program it was very intense and a lot of work. The internship course had a lot of writing assignments.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The housing was very nice. We lived right by the water so we had a beautiful view of Devonport. Also right next to us was a supermarket so it was super easy buying groceries.

* Food:

There are a wide variety of cuisines.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I have learned so much on this program. I was able to try new experiences such as hiking and rafting.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Fresh fruits and vegetables in New Zealand is very expensive.

  • Shorter internship hours
  • Less writing assignments for the internship course
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wished I knew the time commitment for the internship and the internship program. I did not initially know the internship was 20-25 hours per week. Additionally, I thought the internship course was just the internship aspect however there were many writing assignments.
