Study Away and Internship Programs in New York City

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a lot. I now know how to navigate the city, ride the subway...my classes were great and I learned a lot from them. All in all it was a worthwhile experience. I want to go back and visit New York City, even though I wouldn't want to live there permanently. It is a great place with so much culture and art to see. It was super helpful to have the professors critiquing our work and meeting other artists. I loved that I had my own studio space and room to work. You will be doing a lot of work, but it's a growing experience, and it's good.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Towards the end of the program I ended up running out of money. It was a little hard because things are more expensive in NYC than Minnesota.

* Was housing included in your program cost? Yes
* Was food included in your program cost? No
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $200
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Try to spend less money on the front end of the trip so you have more towards the end. It's hard because we had to buy all of our own art supplies for the projects and such. It would have been nice to have at least some basic supplies provided for us. Just make sure you're managing your money so you can afford supplies/food/travel expenses and such.
