The academics were not particularly rigorous, the focus was on the cultural experience

We were provided for very well with a variety of rich experiences

The food was monotonous but plentiful

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

One of the best things about this program was that we always had a local person with us to help us integrate.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

We had to get yellow fever vaccine and take medication to prevent malaria. In Ghana our administrators made our health a priority and promptly sought healthcare for those who needed it. Fortunately I did not need to go to the hospital while I was there because I was told they were dirty and overcrowded

* Safety:

We were well briefed on safety precautions and did not experience any problems.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The chance to enter into a very different culture
  • Developing relationships with Ghanaians
  • Experiencing life in a rural African village
* What could be improved?
  • The academic part might have been better organ ized
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? The public restrooms are disgusting. Bring toilet paper, hand sanitizer and a an adaptable attitude.
