Arcadia: London - Queen Mary University of London

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned that I can live independently in a foreign country, and that I am more capable than I thought. I also fell in love with the city of London and it was the time of my life!

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Queen Mary isn't an easy school, it is up to par with competitive universities.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

There is a little bit of difficulty registering for classes as there technology is not as advanced as my home university's. Whereas I can change and un-enroll in classes at my home uni right online, in the UK it is more complicated dealing with the departments.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I felt very safe in London. I was always in groups, but never had any trouble the few times I was alone.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

London is an expensive city, there's no doubt about it. Thankfully I saved up a lot before going abroad so I recommend that.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $100+
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Work the summer before you go, and buy travel tickets very, very ahead of schedule.
