Arcadia: London - London School of Economics

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned from my program that i really like where i live, and that I want to remain in Texas after graduation. It was worth while, and a very good learning experience, both academically and about myself.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

This course definitely focuses on the study part of Studying Abroad. Yes the courses that you choose do effect how much work you have, but this course is very academically challenging.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Honestly Arcadia was good for helping to get your visa, and for having a place to get settled for a couple days after arriving, but after the academic program actually starts they do not do much.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The dorms were a lot like living on campus at a regular university.

* Food:

If you live in the dorms here, you need to know how to cook, unless you want to pay extra for having a catered hall.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

This program is very good about integrating you with the local culture. It places you in a foreign university and as long as you get involved with organizations you will be a part of the local culture.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I had no health issues on this trip.

* Safety:

London was very safe as long as you are smart and aware of your surroundings.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

London is a very expensive place to live, be prepared to spend some money living there, especially if you are going for a full year.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

  • The local people
  • The independence
* What could be improved?
  • The length
  • the weather
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Going from Texas there was a big shock where it came to the weather. Also going to live in another country for a full year is a long time, much longer than it might seem.
