Arcadia: London - Arcadia in London

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Visiting London for four months was a worthwhile experience as I was able to spend an ample amount of time absorbing the value of the city, its museums, and central location for traveling to Scotland and France on several occasions.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

There was no curriculum, no books, no real substance to any of the courses that I took. Yet, the professors graded pretty harshly on papers, rarely assigned readings, and only gave instruction to write a seven page paper at the end of the course essentially about anything related.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Very unorganized and unprofessional, for example I was warned and scolded through email about having unexcused classes that I was not even supposed to be enrolled in, by mistake of an employee.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The living arrangement was very nice and I was able to room with a friend very easily, but the management of the housing was not effective and there was no study space near the living.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The only integration with the culture was from the location of the classes, in Central London.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

I would have chosen a program with local students, with a higher GPA requirement.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • That class only met once a week
* What could be improved?
  • Course content
  • quality of students accepted
  • housing management
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? That traveling alone can be scary but allows you to find your own way and gain a larger sense of independence.
