Arcadia: Edinburgh - University of Edinburgh

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
My experience abroad was worthwhile. I learned how to live on my own and become more independent by being forced to do things alone. Schooling throughout the world is so different, and I'm glad that I had the opportunity to experience learning at such a pretigious university.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The University of Edinburgh is a prestigious university. Schooling is approached very differently. Professors are more strict on grading and a bit more vague when it comes to finding resources for papers.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The Arcadia staff was easy to reach via email and calling with any question or problem that I encountered throughout my time abroad. They also have an office on the campus of Edinburgh for in person meetings.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

* Safety:

Edinburgh is a very safe city to walk through. Being a solo female traveler, I felt very safe in Edinburgh, even when walking at night.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Arcadia was a great help to adapting to life abroad and preparing students for the university lifestyle in Edinburgh. Scotland is a very safe and welcoming place, full of history and beautiful architecture.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I did not have a budget in mind when I started my program. It gets too easy to spend a lot, so it is definitely beneficial to budget yourself BEFORE leaving.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? About $100

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
