It is funny, I seemed to experience more of a culture shock coming back to America than going to Morocco. I knew that the U.S was vastly different from a majority of countries, but I think actually living amongst the people of Morocco for six weeks affirmed this statement. It was definitely worthwhile. Being able to focus my attention solely on Arabic improved my language skills a lot, and the direct exposure to North African culture helped me to see just a hint of the diversity of what we call the Arab world. Yes, it was totally worthwhile. The things I remember the most are the little things that Moroccans do similarly to or differently from Americans. This ranged from how they dressed to how they interected between families in public--pretty much everyday things. I was bitten by the study abroad bug. I can't wait to study in ... AALIM’s goal is to see each and every student make significant advances toward their personal language goals.
