An Unforgettable Experience in Florence, Italy October 10, 2026
By Isabelle C (Graphic Design, Liberty University) - abroad from 01/26/2026 to 05/15/2026 with
API (Academic Programs International): Florence - Lorenzo de’ Medici – The Italian International Institute (LDM)
My experience abroad taught me a lot about different cultures, traditions, and ways of life. I learned to be more independent, adaptable, and open-minded when faced with unfamiliar situations. Through this experience, I also realized how important it is to step outside my comfort zone and how that can lead to incredible personal growth. Overall, the experience was definitely worthwhile because it allowed me to create meaningful memories, meet new people, and gain a broader perspective of the world.

| Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | One of my biggest money-saving tips is to cook your own meals during the week instead of eating out every day. Grocery shopping and preparing meals at home can save a lot of money over time. I would recommend planning meals ahead of time, buying groceries in bulk when possible, and making enough food for leftovers. Then, save going to restaurants for special occasions or weekends when you want to try local cuisine and experience the culture. This way, you can enjoy dining out without overspending. Finding a balance between cooking at home and eating out allows you to manage your budget while still making the most of your study abroad experience. |

| * What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I wish I had known how important it was to slow down and enjoy the moment instead of always feeling like I needed to be doing something or going somewhere. There is so much to see and experience while abroad, but it's also important to take time to appreciate everyday life, spend time with friends, and enjoy the little things. Looking back, I realize that I didn't have to travel every weekend or have a packed schedule to make the most of my experience. Sometimes, the best memories come from simple moments, like exploring the city, trying a new restaurant, or relaxing with friends. I would remind future students to be present, not put too much pressure on themselves to do everything, and remember that the experience is about enjoying the journey rather than checking things off a list. |
