Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I learned so much Spanish in my one-on-one courses. I was able to review concepts that I had forgotten while learning new content and I didn't have to worry about slowing down (or being slowed down) by other classmates.

Everything was well organized and easy.

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Wonderful!

* Food:

Ecuadorian food is varied and delicious. I miss empanadas...

Staying with a family makes all the difference in the world!

Didn't have any issues.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Very easy, things are either the same or less expensive than in the USA. (With the exception of some things like major electronics.)

Speaking Spanish all the time is expected.

Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? Just talk! Don't worry too much about messing up. Just go for it!

  • It was intense, maybe fewer hours
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I had relaxed more and just put myself out there. Encouraged myself to try more things. FULL DISCLOSURE: As a result of this program I now work for ACLAS. However, I believe I would make the same review if I did not work for this organization.
