A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • challenging academics
  • having the option to take 5 classes
  • Arabic instruction was EXCELLENT both for Colloquial and MSA
* What could be improved?
  • administration treated students like young children, thus hampering efforts to explore and learn
  • isolation of the building limited interactions with Jordanians; very difficult to meet people who weren't Americans
  • weekly cultural dialogue was ineffective
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? The administration and my relationship with one woman in particular meant that this program left a bad flavor in my mouth. I felt that they were overbearing to the point that it limited students' ability to explore and learn. In short, they were too protective. On a different note, they were not sympathetic nor lenient about changing policies when a personal emergency came up during my stay.

The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
