Memorable July 22, 2026
By Neha E (Brandeis University) - abroad from 01/26/2026 to 05/15/2026 with
Advanced Studies England: Bath - ASE Study Centre
I recommend everyone try this at least once! I travelled by myself and figured out a lot of things that I was scared to try. I also learned how to handle a rigorous syllabus.

Review Your Program
|
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
This program is very rigorous and is intense compared to some of the other programs. They do a lot of fun trips and planned itinerary, but if you are not on top of your workload, it can get hard. |
|
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The administration of my program is amazing! They plan a lot of the trips and give so many opportunities to see the UK as a whole! They are also very organized! |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I was happy with my living arrangements; I was right outside where the bus pickup was and also in the city center, so it made everything more accessible. But the beds were so small! |
| * Food: |
We had to do our own cooking; they would divide up the money and send it to us weekly/biweekly to get groceries and we would cook. |
|
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I felt integrated with the local culture. I became close with a local family who runs a cafe and was part of the Social and Cultural Integration program. |
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
The program gives us a tool to set up with a GP in advance. But there is a 24/7 ASE phone you can ring that is staffed if you need ANYTHING in an emergency, and they will stay with you and walk you through, help book appointments, etc... |
| * Safety: |
There is a 24/7 ASE phone that is staffed by ASE staff if you need anything emergent, and when an issue arises, they act immediately and change locks and keys; safety and our well-being are their #1 priority. |
| If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
It was such an amazing program, yes it can be rigorous, but they also realize that and offer immense support! They planned a lot of trips at no extra cost! They also kept us informed of fun things happening in Bath as well! I loved the staff, the work, the community, and life. |
Finances
|
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
So, it purely depends on how you are as a spender. When it comes to food, a week's worth of groceries, if split between 4 people, was very attainable; this caused less food wastage, and we were able to split things equally. Now, if you are getting groceries just for yourself, it can be a tad bit more expensive. When traveling, if you are not getting a lot of things or can budget eating out, it will be okay, but it is still more on the expensive side. |
| Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Yes! Please make sure you either get a credit card that has no transfer fee from dollars to your current country's currency or a debit card with low fees. (Wise is a good app; please look into it and make a decision that best suits your needs. |
