Adelante: Edinburgh - Equine Summer Program in Scotland

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned more about my riding and in the classes I took. I also really enjoyed learning about Scotland's culture and people.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Both courses were interesting but neither was particularly challenging.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The warden of the dorms was not especially helpful but all the rest of the staff were extremely lovely.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I was happy that the rooms were singles and I was very pleasantly surprised to find that our rooms were cleaned and beds made daily.

* Food:

Good for dorm food, only wish was for more variety. Potentially more options for vegetables, rather than chips/fries.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

N/A

* Safety:

I was always cautious, especially with my belongings. However, I never felt unsafe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I would change a few minor things. But overall I really enjoyed this study abroad experience.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Maximum £100 per week, usually less

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Riding
  • Planned Outings
  • Free Days to Explore
* What could be improved?
  • Food Variety
  • Rigor of Riding Lessons
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I loved the opportunities to ride, but I wish I had known that it would not be very rigorous. I also wish that they would have been able to send a more updated schedule before we left for Scotland, so that better plans for free weekends or days could have been made.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
