My French has improved a lot since being abroad and living in a residence was incredible to meet local people! - Brandeis University View Entire Review
Besides gaining a much greater grasp on French which I hope to use both professionally and in my personal life, the intrinsic journey one takes in moving to a new country and learning a whole new way of life is incredibly conducive to personal growth. - Brandeis University View Entire Review

About

Explore the Francophone world through an immersive gap year experience with APA. Designed for students seeking meaningful academic, cultural, and personal growth, APA offers flexible gap year options across France, Morocco, and Senegal.

Rather than following a single preset curriculum, APA works individually with each student to create an experience that matches their academic interests, French level, preferred destination, and goals. Students may choose from APA’s established programs, including:
  • Paris Semester Program: Study in France’s capital through French language courses, Francophone studies, and opportunities to engage with French university courses or specialized arts offerings.
  • Multi-Country Program: Explore the diversity of the Francophone world through immersive experiences in France, Morocco, and Senegal (available for students with advanced French proficiency).
  • Dakar Semester Program: Experience contemporary Francophone Africa through coursework in areas such as business, leadership, social sciences, communications, and STEM, with options available in both French and English.
  • Shorter Paris Program: Participate in an immersive French language and cultural experience through a shorter program option.
Program Highlights
  • A Gap Year Designed Around You: Build a personalized experience based on your academic interests, French level, goals, and preferred length of stay, with individual academic advising to help shape your program.
  • Strengthen Your French Through Immersion: Develop your French language skills through coursework and everyday interactions while gaining confidence using the language in real-world settings.
  • Experience French-Speaking Cultures Firsthand: Deepen your understanding of the Francophone world through cultural activities, excursions, and daily life abroad—whether exploring Parisian history and arts, experiencing France, Morocco, and Senegal through the Multi-Country program, or engaging with contemporary Senegal.
  • Learn Inside and Outside the Classroom: Connect academics with daily life through immersive housing, cultural experiences, excursions, and meaningful engagement with local communities.
  • Gain Independence With Personalized Support: Develop independence and confidence while benefiting from dedicated on-site staff and individualized support, from navigating daily life abroad to adjusting to a new academic and cultural environment.
Cultural activities, excursions, and housing accommodations are included.

At the end of the program, students can receive an official transcript from APA's School of Record, Arcadia University, that may be used to transfer credits toward an undergraduate degree.

APA’s flexible gap year model allows students to create a meaningful international experience that aligns with their interests, goals, and next steps.
