University of Northern Iowa: Capstone in England and Ireland

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about technology and how different it is in other societies! They have solar trees in London to help charge cell phones in public, public gardens, and recycling in restaurants! How cool!

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The class was just right! It was not too hard and did not require a lot of time so I still had time for my other classes.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

We weren't hosted in any houses but our hotels and hostels were very nice and got us what we needed

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Some of the hotels and hostels were better than others. Wifi was an issue we occurred with it not working in some spots when we wanted to contact our families, but overall it was very nice.

* Food:

The food was amazing everywhere we went!!!!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It's hard to not stand out as a tourist but I felt like overall I fit in with the culture and was able to learn about it a lot!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

There were no vaccines required for this course but we soon found out that London especially was very dirty

* Safety:

I felt safe wherever I went! We had no incidents but were warned that there are pitpocketers

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Everything I did on this trip was extremely memorable and I would not trade that for the world! I loved every second of my trip and would highly recommend the trip and my professor for any trips in the future!

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I had scholarships that made it possible for me to be well off before going abroad

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $150-200
