University of Nicosia - Global Semesters: Nicosia - Semester in Cyprus

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I got to experience life on a tiny island and go to so many regions of the world I never thought I’d go. It was amazing.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Classes were arbitrarily graded but not rigorous. While the classes were very easy, the expectations were all over the place.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Global semesters office was excellent. Very attentive, made sure we have everything we needed.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

It was good housing, clean, better than a dorm, but they were weirdly strict about visitors and it felt very monitored.

* Food:

There was no meal plan, so getting food was expensive.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

This part was excellent. Really great experience.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I got extremely sick and couldn’t get in with the university’s health center so I had to go to the emergency room and spend way too much money after getting way too sick.

* Safety:

I never once felt unsafe in Nicosia.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Cyprus is a one of a kind place and the administrators were excellent all around.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Cook! Don’t always go out.
