University of Nicosia - Global Semesters: Nicosia - Semester in Cyprus

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Choose wisely before you select where you want to study abroad. Read lots of reviews. Do your own research. In my experience, I learned how to room with more than one other person. I also got more confident with taking public transportation.

The biggest problem I had with the semester in Cyprus program was the lack of activities provided by the University of Nicosia and the absence of activities within Nicosia itself. Not only did I feel it was very difficult to be "immersed" in the culture, but I had a hard time finding much to do in Cyprus without leaving Nicosia and taking a day trip to a different city. Nicosia is business city. And unfortunately that's where the program is offered. I'm willing to admit that I may have just been unaware of a lot of opportunities within the city, but even then It was not properly advertised or brought to my attention.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? The meal plan works great if you don't want to think about buying food, and it allows you to eat a variety of restaurants. However, you do miss out on the experience of cooking for yourself.
