So when do I get to go back for my master's degree? Past Review

University of Edinburgh: Edinburgh - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
If you want the kitchen clean, you have to do it yourself, and that's okay. Living with boys is *incredibly* annoying, and I do not miss them one bit now that I'm back at Wellesley. Edinburgh public libraries only let you check out 12 books at a time, and that's unfortunate, but there's 27 of them to explore, which makes up for it. Part of me still regrets not being a Celtic Studies major

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I wasn't a huge fan of the way the computer science courses were taught (I prefer weekly problem sets to two more long-term projects over the course of the semester) but if you abandoned me in the library and told me to live there for a week I'd be perfectly happy.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The house was great. The people I was living with couldn't keep the kitchen clean to save their lives. The perils of living mostly with first-years?

* Food:

I was in self-catered accomodations so I cooked my own food. I enjoy both grocery shopping and cooking so I give myself a 5.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I've no idea how the NHS is for visiting students as I was never sick, but it seems rather better than the U.S.'s healthcare system

* Safety:

I took the bus home at 2am once and felt perfectly safe. This is why you go to Edinburgh, not Glasgow :)

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

'Easy' is a relative term.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? £55 or about $88
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? 99% of the shops in Edinburgh have student discounts.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Academic or Linguist
You went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you!
