Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I thought that the academic experience was very different from Middlebury. Classes had less contact time but you were expected to do a lot of readings before class to keep up with discussions. The Study Abroad Office was accommodating but you need to ask for help, nothing happens if you do not.

On-site administration of your program

I thought that the study abroad office was a great resource. They were very helpful with the queries that I had on arriving. They were accommodating in helping you find courses and housing. I thought it would have been nice to have some form of check-in with them, but otherwise, it was fine.

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I really liked my housing arrangement. I was in an apartment with one other student and we cooked, cleaned and lived together without issues. It also helped to have someone to shop with to reduce costs.

I cooked myself from the start. This made it easier for me to manage my given budget. If not, I sometimes bought food at the canteen, which is good, but can be pricey.

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I joined clubs and organisations that kept me in touch with the local culture through local students.

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I was never sick abroad so I did not use any of the healthcare facilities in UEA. There is a pharmacy on campus though that deals with minor illnesses.

Generally, I would say that the host city is very safe. It may feel a bit scary to be out after dark though, as it is a bigger city than what I am used to.

UEA was a really enriching time where I got to learn a lot about managing my own finances, travelling independently and managing time wisely as no one told you about how to best spend your time in school. Its proximity to Norwich allowed you to make friends with townspeople and better learn about the local culture.

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

We were given a monthly stipend that covered food costs. I would say I spent $80 a week from it, so that gave me some money from it to spare to use on gym facilities which are free at Middlebury but not in UEA.
