About
Gender and communication thrive at a dynamic crossroads. The program introduces students to the relationship between gender and communication in a locale with seemingly endless resources, a deep history and culture that is intellectually and experientially stimulating, and a sophisticated soul that breathes life into the vibrant city. Students learn concepts related to gender and communication, contemplate research, and immerse themselves into their surroundings by having experiences directly related to class material. The program compares and contrasts the U.S. and U.K. in terms of gender and communication. Example topics include gender roles in society; language differences; stereotypes; friendships and romantic relationships; leadership; glass ceiling; text messaging, Facebook, and computer-mediated communication; and gendered representations on TV and other media. Students will visit the British Museum, National Gallery, Hampton Court, and the Science Museum (most providing guided tours crafted for the class).
