University of Brighton - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Absolutely! I learned a lot about the differences of our school systems and it really helped open my eyes to how we can do things better.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I absolutely LOVED the class. I prefer classes like this over American courses because there is less of a focus on grades/homework and more of a focus on participation. Kate and Dave, our instructors, taught us that students aren't standards, they are real people and should be taught and treated like real people. Our culminating assignment was to put together a drama sequence of three "lesson plans" based on sculptures. It was something I have never done before so I thought it was really useful!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Mary and Zoe are awesome! They are so helpful and really made us feel like home in Brighton. They were always available in their office when we had questions or needed help getting around.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The dorms were great! It was nice to have our own rooms and bathrooms with a shared kitchen. It made it very easy to eat cheap meals!

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Brighton Pavilion was great! All the castles are fun, too!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Each week, I spent about 100 pounds. Since we traveled on the weekends, I spent about 100 pounds per weekend, also. I, however, did not do as much shopping as some did.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Traveling to/from London is expensive so be prepared for extra travel money! Trains also cost more than I expected.
