About

This program will introduce students to the economic, political and social aspects of developing sustainable energy in an emerging market like Turkey. In addition to the 3-credit course, the students will get exposure to many Turkish scholars and energy industry experts on various issues such as privatization of energy markets, environmental impact of fossil fuels and nuclear energy, civil society activism and public opinion on clean energy, renewable energy technologies, energy pipeline politics etc. In addition to learning and observing the energy consumption patterns in a metropolitan city, like Istanbul, the students will also participate in various energy-related activities organized by environmental organizations such as the Greenpeace. There will also be field trips out of town to visit power plants, wind farms, and hydroelectric dams.
