How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Some of the hotels that we stayed in were not the best but it did not matter because we moved around so much and spent very little time at the hotels.

* Food:

As a person with food allergies I was concerned initially but the tour leader, Mohamed, was an excellent guide to what I could and could not eat and made sure that there were alternatives for me.

Bring pepto! Travelers stomach is very common.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

The exchange rate is in the student's favor. Most meals we had were either included or donated by people we met along the way.

A Look Back

  • Different locations (the modern cities and the ancient outposts)
  • the community service aspect
  • The small size of the group
* What could be improved?
  • potentially different locations year to year
  • a formal Arabic class while in counry
  • a longer term to explore topics furhter
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? You have to brace yourself for the emotional aspects of this trip. The community service and interaction with the orphanages will tear you up and the people that you meet along the way will stay with you even after you return home.

The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
