An Amazing Experience in Denmark Past Review

SUNY New Paltz: Copenhagen - Summer Studies in International Social Welfare

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
YES!!! Sooo many, too many to list. I came back with just an overall awareness of life and myself. I want to change things here and start with changing myself. It was really an eye-opening experience in many ways and I am sooooo glad that I went on the trip. I just want to learn more and more about their system and learn how to bring some of it back here.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Everything about the program was amazing. Our time there, out advisor, the agencies we visited, and the paper we had to write. It was an all around great trip.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Overall great.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My host was extremely friendly, nice, and generous. I had a great time staying with her and I learned a lot about her and the Danish culture. She was very well prepared for me, and had everything I needed. It was not far from the center of the city and there was a very convenient bus stop and metro stop near her house.

* Food:

Very good food everywhere. Not a big fan of fish, which is very big there. I was still able to find many things to eat all of the time.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Amazing! The people there were amazing and friendly and helpful. Very easy to approach on the streets to ask for directions, and pretty much everyone speaks English. Made a lot of friends and had very awesome conversations with strangers.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Everything very great.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Do itttt! It was amazing and the time of my life. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Denmark is a beautiful place and Copenhagen is an absolutely wonderful city. But get ready for their social welfare because it will blow your mind, makes you slightly sad to come back to America.
