SUNY Binghamton: London - Semester in London

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was incredible I just wish we had more time. The program should go to the middle of may at least. Its such an awkward time to go home, and London is finally getting nice right at the end of april, right when we are leaving.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes were based upon living in london rather than the workload, that was amazing!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Emily was great, we could always approach her, although sometimes she didn't have all the answers we wanted or needed.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

5 girls in a flat. I lived in a triple while two other girls had a double.

It was good for what it was. Although we didn't have heat for the first three weeks, and alot of times things went wrong, and acorn was really slow about fixing things.

* Food:

I went grocery shopping, and cooked for myself and my flat mates shared meals and food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The weekend trips were nice, but i wish we could have picked some of the places, or had more structure on them. Sometimes they would let us wander and we wouldnt have anything to do. More structure on the weekend trips would have been nicer. and more theatre outings that weren't necessarily part of the course work. More modern shows and musicals.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I took out about 100 pounds every week. that went towards groceries cell phone bill and transortaiton. some weeks i spent more money on other things like theatre and traveling or shopping.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Everything in London is super expensive. I wasn't prepared for that. but my parents were really helpful when i needed money.
