Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA): Meet the Media

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
This was great for me as I will be looking for a job soon. We met with multiple media corporations and I gained a passion for a specific job that I hope to gain. Also, I feel in love with London and am open to working abroad to widen my search and life experience.

Personal Information

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Stayed at St. Marys University in East London. The nearest underground is Mile End. This is a few stops away from central London where most of the nightlife is. This is not a problem unless you stay out late and have to bus back to the university.

* Food:

Take Away food from the grocery stores and cafes is very fresh. Mainly consists of sandwiches, fruit and sushi.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Kings of Leon concert in Hyde Park was a great opportunity to enjoy live music and to interact with other young adults from London.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Remember to keep in mind the currency exchange of the country you visit. I needed money for lunch and dinner. You can eat lunch for cheap by just grabbing something to take away at grocery store. Spent around 10-15 pounds for sit down dinners. Also, see what your trip includes as for free time events because we spent alot of money on threatre and concert tickets.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Over budget your money so you are not stressed out about running out before the trip is over.

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
