What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I love Africa

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I should have only taken international courses and not mainstream courses!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Stellenbosch University's International Program was so extremely helpful and very easy to contact!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

I basically lived at Kauai!!Its an organic wrap and salad chain that is absolutely amazing! Other restraunts I would recommend are Java, Wijn Huis, Big Easy, and of course, the Neelsie

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The Stellenbosch University International program organized a day trip to Cape Town during orientation that was really cool and helpful.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Stellenbosch had what they called a "green route" where, pretty much throughout the city, were men stood at each end of the street to be on the look out for anything suspicious or unsafe. I had to go to the doctor's office because of a strep throat scare that was apart of the univeristy and I was in and out in thirty minutes

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I probably spent close to $50 a week(atleast) on food and probably close to $100 to $150 every three weeks for personal expenses
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I went to Stellnebosch expecting to have a mealplan of some sort so being told that my living arrangements were "self-catered" came as a complete shock to me. I would suggest that anyone living in Academia or Concordia be told that they will have to provide their own meals.
