Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The syllabus and assigned readings provided BEFORE our trip and the Saturday classes on campus were invaluable! All the preparation before our travel experience set the stage for an incredible 18 days of on site experiential learning. "Seeing everything" with a photographer's eye made all we saw more vivid and memorable. Walking in the steps of the authors' tales made our readings and learning come alive! It was an incredible mind and soul filling experience.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Our faculty leaders were REMARKABLE. They were efficient and well organized and we were able to use the time spent learning in our travels to the maximum. The size of our group was "just right"! The diversity of learners' ages and experiences made our journey even more meaningful (From young 20's to 70 was the age span!) The support services of the Alnwick program director was disappointing. Attention to important details by the director were many times dropped or no follow through was the result which served as a distraction in some cases. Because of the professionalism and experience of our professor leaders (who went the extra mile and took care of things that should not have been their responsibility) our experience was still positive in spite of the "dropped ball" by the director.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Living in Hunters' Block in Alnwick Castle had its challenges mostly of cleanliness of rooms and bathrooms.

* Food:

Fruits and vegetables were rarely served with thoughts to well-balanced meals. The kitchen facilities were incredibly unsanitary. Many times there was not enough clean silverware or glasses for people at mealtimes. There was a real lack of organization and competence among the "cooks" in the kitchen. This was an unsettling part of the experience.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The whole experience - all we saw and did was extremely memorable and valuable! I feel incredibly lucky to have been a part of this experience!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I experienced a lung infection after arriving but had brought along the medications I needed to "get through" the health issues I faced. I do believe that more well balanced meals and cleaner living conditions played a definite part in my overall health in this experience.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $50
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? NA

Language

What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? United States
