St. Catherine's College, University of Oxford - Visiting Students Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
My biggest takeaway from the experience was meeting students from all around the world and learning from students who have very different learning styles. For example, on my developmental economics tutorial, I met a student who had a quantitative approach to solving weekly essay prompts. This contrasted to the qualitative approach of my essays and we were able to learn immensely from one another. Oxford provides a discussion-focused learning, which contrasted to the lecture-focused classes I was accustomed to. In hindsight, the tutorial system made me realize the importance of conversations and how much we can learn from one another. It also rekindled my passion for my major and interest in global affairs. Furthermore, I was able to learn a nutshell of British culture, how other students perceive the United States, and engage in a conversation about how I view my mother country as well. And with that, I'm very grateful for the experience.

St.Catz does an amazing job helping visiting students immerse in a new culture. The work load is manageable (but challenging enough), so the visiting student is able to have the full experience to participate in societies and learn about the unique culture of Oxford. It is a full program to learn not only independently but to learn the most from colleagues and experts in the field.
