Royal Holloway, University of London Past Review

Royal Holloway, University of London: London - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was one of the best experiences of my life. I became so much stronger, more confident, and independent. I met the most amazing people, and got to see the most amazing places. London is a great place to stay for traveling. I had the opportunity to visit any European country for a weekend getaway. For me, it wasn't as much about the education as the life experience, but it was definitely worth it and I will never forget that semester.

Personal Information

The term and year this program took place: Fall 2009

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

i was unable to take the courses I really wanted, but the ones I did take were still interesting.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

My program director was not in the area and difficult to contact with any questions. It would have been nice to have more support overseas.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My single bedroom in the student housing was great, but in my flat were other international students. I would have liked to have been places with local students.

The flats were clean, spacious, and had all the amenities i needed. They were very safe, and close to classes and the student center.

* Food:

we did not receive a meal plan so I had to make most of my meals

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I made life long friends both from America and England that I will cherish forever.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

i felt very safe both on my campus and in the city of London.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I had to have computer repairs which I had to pay for. Things come up that aren't planned in the budget!

Language

Language acquisition improvement?

I studied in an English speaking country

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Get involved with the student activities, and go to the Student Union! The British students are great and so friendly. I was able to join clubs and meet people so easily.
