Regent’s University London: Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was definitely worthwhile. I learned about English culture and how they act on a daily basis.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Fairly satisfied, except that construction happened early in the morning more times than not, and we were under a stairwell that was rather noisy in the morning.

* Food:

Not as many choices as I am used to, and there was no food at school on Saturdays. Quality was pretty good.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

We were living with study abroad students, mostly Americans, but most classes had other international students.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I felt fairly confident and safe in London, although I know it generally isn't very safe. Most people keep to themselves so just try to blend in.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It was rather difficult to stay on budget mostly because of the exchange rates. If a bag of chips was $2 here, it would be £2 there, except that is really $3+. Also wanting to do everything while you're there is tricky because you need to pick and choose with a restricted budget.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $100, sometimes more
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Save money and take over about $3000 if you want to have a nice time. I took over about $2200 or so and felt restricted. It's good to budget no matter how much you take so that you don't run out of money in the end (like I did).

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Academic or Linguist
You went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you!
