Millsaps College: Summer 2016 Faculty-led Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned that being integrated in the global economy/culture can teach you a lot about how you view the world. You'll gain a better understanding about why certain countries act the way they do and how that affects the United States. Once you get back home you will have some different opinions than you left with. Not only was it worthwhile, the trip should be an essential part of a Millsaps student's college experience.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

The program was worth every dime. Our trip group became friends very quickly and because of that we had such a fun time. I just wish everyone was able to experience it.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Take more money than you initially think you will need. If you don't take it with you, at least have it available for easy access over your phone. You 100% will spend more money than you need to but it will be worth every cent. It costs a lot of money to have a good time.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $300-$400
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Try not to eat big, expensive meals throughout the day. Keep it light and relatively cheap. Save your money for when a large group wants to go eat a nice meal.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
