A very enlightening experience giving me a broadened perspective. Past Review

By (Sociology., Wellesley College) - abroad from 10/01/2013 to 07/05/2013 with

London School of Economics (LSE): London - General Course, Year-Long Study Abroad Programme

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about Europe and its cultural diversity. I also learned how to live and travel in a new country that was very different from the US.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The library is very large and crowded although there are many resources. Also, the professors are unavailable especially in comparison to a small liberal arts college. The courses are challenging and very informative.

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

* Health Care:

* Safety:

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It was expensive to live in London as expected.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 50
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? It is very expensive to eat out so I suggest eating in or looking for other cost saving options.

  • Meeting new people from all over the world.
* What could be improved?
  • Meeting with other Wellesley students before going abroad.
  • Having a better idea of what going to the study abroad program would be like.
  • Having more contact with the academic advisor provided by study abroad university.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I new that the professors were less available and that I would have to take more initiative to meet people. The exam process is very different and it would have been helpful to know that as well.
