What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
This was the best experience of my life. I love Swedish culture and the people I met, international and Swedish, I will never forget. Seeing my home country from an outside perspective was great and so beneficial.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Because of limited office hours the host administration is difficult to talk to in person, but through email they are very helpful.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

We had some problems with people breaking in and stealing things, but after brought up with the housing company and police the issue was solved. I loved living with international students. Furniture was included, but sheets and towels I had to get. Cookware was also provided. I felt the area we live, which was 2 minutes walking distance to campus, was very safe. I felt safe even walking alone at night.

* Food:

I am a vegetarian, but you provide your own food so that was not a problem. There are also restaurants on campus and several grocery stores nearby.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The Christmas market in Huseby was amazing! Also the bus tour a little outside the town was nice. There were other trips I did not attend, but the people that did loved them. Swedes are very helpful in academic life, but outside of that are very hard to get to know. I did not meet that many. I did have a "buddy" and she was very helpful.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

No health problems and I always felt safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

I took a Swedish language course. It was great, I not only learned some of the language, but a lot about the culture. Almost everyone in Sweden speaks English so it is not hard to get around. Generally the only people who do not speak English are the older generations, but that was not an issue.

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? Exchange

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Sweden is a pretty expensive country, traveling by bus or train is also expensive. Make sure you are careful with spending your money.

Individual Course Reviews

Course Name/Rating:

International Law Program

Course Department: Economics
Instructor: Mirza Baig
Instruction Language: English
Comments: Course was very interesting, I took 3 courses in this program: Introduction to International Law, International Human Rights and Terrorism - A Multidisciplinary Approach. The instructor is where I have problems. If possible I recommend not taking Mirza Baig as a Professor. He is very narrow minded and his lectures are terrible, especially if you are not a native English speaker ( I am, but others in the course that are not had a really hard time understanding him).
